Leave it to Madonna to release a music video and change my entire opinion on a song. Just the other day, I was listening to this track thinking about how ridiculously simple it is, and how I would expect more from a person that many label the Queen of Pop. Flash forward to moments after watching the new video, and all my previous f*cking thoughts have gone out the window!

I’m living for this video… It simply works.

Turn Up the Radio is the third single from Madonna’s latest album, MDNA. The video was shot in Florence, Italy and directed by Tom Munro, who also shot M’s Give It 2 Me clip back in 2008.

Oh, and PS! If you’re curious about what the driver says at the end of the video, it translates to dis: “The party’s over now. Buckle [your] belt, b—-!”

Wotyougot recently chatted it up with the cutie pie that is Mika, discussing his upcoming third album The Origin Of Love + his new relationship, his career, music piracy, and a little song he wrote for Madonna’s new album called Gang Bang:

“It was full of all these statements that my grandfather used to say, like a fish out of water, like a bat out of hell, things like you may think it’s you I like the most but I’m just keeping my enemies close. These are all things that my granddad used to say. He was kind of this burly Arab guy who lived in New York. Madonna heard this song because William Orbit presented it to her, and I didn’t know. As far as I was concerned it was just a song that I was writing for myself, and then Madonna liked it and she recorded her version and in the end she adapted it. I was never in the studio with Madonna. The song got changed I think countless times and in the end it was called ‘Gang Bang’, probably because there was so many people that worked on it and it’s kind of cool. I think it’s probably my favorite thing off that last record. It’s kind of grown up in a weird sort of way. It’s got this bitterness about it which is kind of cool to hear from her.”

Ok, not to be THAT person, but I’ve been a Frank Ocean fan long before his coming out made him appear on everyone’s Facebook newsfeed over the past week… To prove my point, check out THIS post that I wrote forever and a day ago, properly titled ‘Frank Ocean, I’m In Love With Chu’. I mean, hello. And although, I thought I couldn’t love him more, the R&B singer/songwriter took my borderline obsession to a whole ‘notha level with the bravery he exuded in his coming out letter.

In case you’ve been living under a rock/are a Southern Baptist (ha), Frank Ocean posted an open letter on his Tumblr page, where he admitted to the fact that his first love was actually a man. Since his painfully honest blog post (which, let’s face it, could change the face of hip-hop), Frank Ocean has received an outpouring of support from friends like Tyler, The Creator, Russell Simmons, fans/family, and now Beyonce herself.

Beyonce and Frank Ocean first developed a friendship when working together on her stunning song I Miss You. To show love + support to Frank for his brave and beautiful decision to be open about his sexuality and life, the always-classy Miss Knowles wrote some simple yet touching words and dedicated them to Frank; covering the words over a black and white shot of Frank Ocean, she wrote: “Be fearless. Be honest. Be generous. Be brave. Be poetic. Be open. Be free. Be yourself. Be in love. Be happy. Be inspiration.”

Beyutiful! (Ok, that’s corny. But f*ck it!)

Frank’s forthcoming LP Channel Orange is set to drop on July 17th.

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell recently fired off at record labels in an interview with Fuse TV at the Beale Street Music Festival.

Said Perry: “I blame the record companies, because I feel that most of the record companies are really lame, and they’ve done their best to destroy really good music. I don’t say that begrudgingly because I’m in a good place. I’ll be fine, but the young musicians are the ones that aren’t getting signed because they’re not pop idiots, and that’s the sad part about it. They’re trying to find a pop sensation to appeal to tweens, whoever is gonna buy the record. Who buys records anymore? Tweens, because they don’t know any better, they don’t know how to steal a record yet.”

He continued: “If you go to a festival, those people [alternative rock bands] are filling the bill. So it’s really the record companies that are a bunch of losers and don’t know what they’re talking about.”

Seriously. This is kinda weird, no? For some reason (clueless party of one, please!), Taylor and Justin were invited to the Walmart Shareholders Meeting in Fayetteville, Arkansas last week. I have one question: WHY? I’m completely confuzzled!

Timberlake, who hosted the event, talked to thousands of Walmart peeps from the stage. And by peeps, I assume this means people who invest in the company, not the actual employees themselves? Again, clueless. Anywho, CCC (cute, cuddly, and charming) JT informed the crowd that he wanted to bring out an actual Wally World customer to interview regarding their overall shopping experience at the super cheap (no shade, the place is cheap!) establishment. As it turns out, the shopper was Taylor herself.

Taylor was also a guest performer of the evening.

I mean, I get it. It’s good promotion, but it’s still slightly odd! AMIRIGHT?!

Funny and cute interview regardless.

Yes, childrenz.

Jessie J recently helped launch Music is GREAT Week at HMV, Oxford Circus. The kick-ass campaign has created a DVD and download of iconic live moments featuring top British acts including The Who, Spice Girls and Adele — with all proceeds going directly to benefit Save The Children.

Jude Bridge, Director of Marketing and Comms at Save the Children spoke on the event: “We are very proud to be partnering with Music is GREAT. For each copy sold, Save the Children will receive all net profits. That money will go towards funding our vital work both in the UK and internationally. I would encourage all music fans to buy this fantastic album which will help save children’s lives and give them a chance to fulfill their potential.”

The Music is GREAT DVD is out now via iTunes and Amazon.

I f*cking love Jessie J!

Big heart/Big vocals. Dare I say, the best vocals in the biz?

Check out an adorable promo for the cause + a recent electrifying performance of Laserlight following.

And even so, I love me some Katy!

“I thought it was important for me to show everything in between. Sometimes, people think we’re perfect, but we know we’re not perfect at all. When you start breaking down the idea, to achieve your dream, [you think you] have to be perfect or flawless or live in a fantasy world. I put everything into the film in the most tasteful way. It’s about how I got there, and the ride along the way, which can be bumpy, but is mostly extremely fun.”

Kurt and Courtney, a romance resurrected from video archives.

Stinking of You was an unreleased duet the couple made together. I had no knowledge of its existence until it showed up in Hit So Hard, a rockumentary about Hole’s drummer.

The footage and song is pure grunge, off-beat and mussed up. I wish Kurt had dominated with his vocals, but Courtney took the lead with singing.

More than anything, I walk away from this song sad. Kurt Cobain had a tragic life, and his relationship with Courtney was less than wholesome. Looking at the clips of their marriage, I’m filled with remorse for what could have been and questions about what was.

Regardless of my emotional reaction, this footage is a piece of musical history. For that it should be appreciated.

“Your actions have consequences, and I’m afraid I have no choice,” RuPaul told contestant Willam Belli on a recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race before disqualifying her from the competition, leaving many fans (including myself) uttering three letters: W.T.F.?!

Since then, speculation has spread like wildfire over the internetz, with errbody trying to figure out why the bitch got da boot!

Well, kids…

In the words of Miz Willam herself:

BTW: Willam’s new single — instant classic, right?! If you watch this and do not laugh/smile, your sense of humor seriously sucks butt!!!

This post is coming at cha in real time, thanks to a feature I like to call “Copy and paste from my Facebook.” It’s a really neat tool, you guys. This is a FB status I posted yesterday:

“I just made direct eye contact w/ Maggie Gyllenhaal. If Jake walks in (I’m at lunch), I might “die”. I’m just saying. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, what what! (He used to be a lifeguard, so he knows his first-aid procedures. Don’t ask me how I know this stuff.)”

Yeah, so that happened. Fun times.

Speaking of Jakey Snugglebutt…

I only watched this new music video because of Jake. But then it creeped me out. I don’t like hipster killer Jake. I like cute, puppy dog Jake.

Still, this is a piece of art backed by a pretty killer groove. Get it, killer! Gosh, I crack myself up.

“I have a special pair of poop shoes under my desk. Whenever I need to drop a deuce, I slip them on and scurry to the restroom, and no one ever knows it’s me. Like, if I’m wearing Louboutins that day, and my producer sees Earth shoes in the stall…well, you get the idea. It was truly a lightbulb moment when that came to me.”

–Oprah Winfrey

And to switch the subject from poop to music (since hey, this is a damn music blog after all), if you haven’t seen Oprah’s special on rock legend Steven Tyler, I’d highly recommend it. It’s absolutely fascinating.
