ADELE’S EX = A DOUCHE MCDOUCHEFACE

“For about a week he was calling and was deadly serious about it. Finally, I said, ‘Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.’ He really thought he’d had some input into the creative process by being a p****. I’ll give him this credit – he made me an adult and put me on the road that I’m travelling.”

JESSIE J – LIVE FROM NEW YORK CITY

Photo courtesy of my mobile phone! How 21st century.

So tonight, I saw JJ in concert and as expected, was completely blown away dot com! Socks knocked off dot org! Yup, and I even met her after the show and she signed my cell phone. Holla! That was pretty cool. Such a genuine, down to earth performer who deserves every bit of praise that’s been coming her way.

Check out three videos from the show last night as recorded from my iPhone 4. And I can’t believe I’m saying this but screw it! If you’re on YouTube subscribe to my channel, por favor.

Sorry for not hyping this post up with grandeur and detail but to be honest, it’s currently 12:41AM and I’m exhausted dot net! (LOL, sorry, last domain reference I promise. It’s just something that’s attached itself to my vocab lately.)

[Note: I tagged this post under 'Covers' (among other tags) but wanted you to know (if you didn't already) that JJ wrote Party In The U.S.A. so technically it's not a cover. Ok, I'm tired and rambling but felt the need to clarify because I have issues!]

WONDERLAND & PS22 COVER MISS ADELE

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

It seems like every day someone else is jumping on the Adele train, and I say, all aboard! Rolling In The Deep is such a beautiful song, so why shouldn’t we get as much as we can? It’s so nice to see such a talented, true artist getting recognized by so many. Her album, 21, is a must have if you haven’t already picked up a copy.

Check out two new awesome renditions of Rolling In The Deep, performed by the new Irish girl group, Wonderland & BTB favorite, the PS22 Chorus.

KATY PERRY GETS ABDUCTED & PROBED

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

What the hell, Ms. Purry?!

Katy Perry recently dropped the music video to her new single E.T., featuring Kanye West and all I gots to say is I prefer quirky fun Katy over creepy Katy. The clip was directed by Floria Sigismondi (yes, she directed Christina Aguilera’s eccentric Fighter vid) and it certainly shows. Katy is painted into an alienhumanoiddeerbot that’s been beamed down from galaxy weird. Kanye basically just floats in the video and acts cooler than thou rhyming about probes and designer alien gear. Ya know, the usual.

On a more positive note, I found a cover of the track that I instantly fell in love with…

Watch my favorite E.T. cover by Alyssa Bernal + the official music video for the track following.

Are you feelin’ weird, creepy Katy?

DOLLY PARTON’S HEART IS AS BIG AS HER OLD SKOOL BOUFFANT & BOOBIES

By: Rob Brayl

This woman’s my hero!

With the just-announced news that Dolly would be touring this summer I found myself listening to old records and watching clips of her online. And I stumbled upon this gem of a photograph, as well as some touching points made when Dolly was interviewed last year by Larry King. Can’t wait to see you on the road this summer, Dolly!

When asked about her loyal gay fans:

“I have a lot of gay fans, female and male. A lot of people feel like they’ve grown up with me. As you know I’ve always been outspoken, I’ve always been pretty outrageous. I’ve always believed that a person should be who they are and you should be comfortable being who you are and people should leave you alone to be who you are and how you are. So I think I’ve always been accepted in the gay community because I accept them. I have so many fans who’ve always loved to come to the shows and they know that I’m not judging them. I think people are who they are. We’re supposed to love each other for what and who we are.”

When asked about anti-gay bullying:

“I don’t know the reasons why people act the way they do about other people. I just think we need to dig down a little deeper and try and be a little kinder to one another and accept each other for who we are. You can’t tell me that people are any way other than how they’re supposed to be. I don’t think gay people are trying to be different just to make other people miserable. I think people are being who they are. I think we should be a little more tolerant and a little more accepting and understanding.”

[Dolly, in an interview w/ Larry King]

Check out a recent interview below + Dolly’s version of Shine following. (The lyrics felt appropriately matched to the message of this post.)

PS: I’ve gotta get back to Dollywood! That place rules my face!

JOHN LEGEND TAKES ON GODDESS ADELE

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

There are songs where the finest version isn’t always the first recorded. If an artist decides to copy a song, spinning it in a drastic yet positive way, then the remake has the right to exist. This may not be the exact case scenario we’re talking about here, but John Legend does a pretty damn good job covering our girl Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. I simply worship both of these artists, and listening to each of their versions is a spectacular treat.

Check it out below.

HALESTORM’S GOT IT COVER’D

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

One of my beloved powerhouse groups, Halestorm, are back with a new EP entitled ReAnimate: The Covers. Lead singer, Lzzy Hale, blares notes so high, things may possibly explode. Her voice is truly one of the best out to date, with a range that’s purely epic. Halestorm covers a diverse collection of greats such as Skid Row, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, and modern day diva Lady Gaga (among others).

This disc has a little bit for everyone, while putting a unique, rock and roll touch on each track. This group never disappoints, live or on the airwaves. See the video below in case you need a reminder.

OMG, HOW SWEET FEAT. MARIA ARAGON

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

To be honest, this is exactly the way I was hoping Lady Gaga would perform this song: solely with fingers tickling ivories and a microphone (hold the bacon, incubating eggs, and protruding cosmetic horns).

I think Maria Aragon’s version is way more moving and all she requires is a keyboard and a mic.

Take note, Gaga…

Less is sometimes/almost always more.

YO, LEAVE CHRISTINA AGUILERA ALONE [FREAKIN' NATIONAL ANTHEM EDITION]

By: Rob Brayl

[Photo Credit: Tom Pennington & Christopher Polk/Getty Images]

Let’s just cut to the chase, shall we?

Not to sound like a tween on Youtube but can all you haters just can it already?! Everyone knows by now that Christina Aguilera messed up the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner during the Super Bowl! Stop bitching about it on Facebook. Stop twitterin’ how it was offensive to you as an American that she effed the words. Let it go. For real, stfu. She’s a human being and human beings make mistakes! Get real, people!

In all honesty though, what does it say about our culture/media that we can forgive Tiger Woods for his indiscretions, we can let go of the douchebaggery spewed from Kanye’s mouth on numerous occasions, we can still allow Charlie Sheen into our homes even after the news of his epic fails, yet we cannot seem let go of the fact that Aguilera botched a few song lyrics? There’s something seriously wrong with that! (Oh, and not to mention that Janet Jackson’s nipple flash was way more offensive than Aguilera’s honest mistake. You try to perform in front of a gazillion people and see if you’re pitch perfect.)

LEAVE CHRISTINA ALONE.

And for the record — in case you have forgotten — the woman can sing.

Watch my favorite Aguilera performance below.

ONE DOSE OF AWESOME & TWO SIDES OF SWEET — PERFORMED IN SIGN LANGUAGE

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

A student named Anna recently performed Cee Lo’s breakup smash F**k You in sign language as a final project for her college course on the same subject. The result? An A+ kick ass, feel good slap to the face. Via Anna’s Youtube page: “I am not deaf and still learning sign language and encourage others to learn sign language as well!”

Sweet!

And speaking of sweet. While listening and working on a write-up on Brandon Heath’s Your Love a little while back, I stumbled upon Keefer’s version in sign language and immediately felt moved. Growing up with a deaf father made it that much sweeter. For the record — unlike Anna — I do believe Keefer is deaf.

Please subscribe to their Youtube channels and show these two some love!

Check out Anna’s awesome performance of F**k You (NSFW), followed by Keefer’s sweet performances of Brandon Heath’s Your Love and Dave Barne’s God Gave Me You below.

[CUTE] BOYS COVERING TAYLOR SWIFT

By: Rob Brayl

Dude-izzle singin’ T-Swizzle.

Don’t ask me how this started. I told you not to ask! Ok, fine. Basically it started with me listening to Enchanted on a loop and I somehow ran into this awesome cover by Allstar Weekend. And it dawned on me that a post about boys singing Taylor Swift would do the heart some good and perhaps melt away at some of the hard rock ice that’s taken fort around New York City.

KESHA COVERS THE ROLLING STONES’ ‘DEAD FLOWERS’ A-LA-NATURALE-ISH

By: Maria Ciezak

I’m not the biggest fan of some mainstream pop artists around these days, but maybe if they sang more songs like this, my opinion would change. Check out Ke$ha as she covers Dead Flowers by The Rolling Stones below.

Do you like Ke$ha’s more natural (less Jack and glitter) side?
