DEAR JOJO, I THINK THAT’S A VASE…

…that you’re drinking from.

That thing is humongous!

I digress.

Check out JoJo (and her vase/cup) covering The Script’s Breakeven below.

As usual, her vocals are goosebump-worthy.

JASON DERULO + MIGUEL OVERLOAD VIA AT&T, EPICALLY SHOT FROM MY IPHONE

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

I had the pleasure recently of catching Jason Derulo & Miguel live from Webster Hall, here in NYC for the AT&T Music For You Series. As expected, the show was a shot of adrenaline, with plenty of sass, soul, and sexyness. Yup, the three S’s.

Like a mad person, I took several vids with my iPhone. (No, this is not a product plug. I ain’t tacky like that!)

Check out a few clips from the show taken from my YouTube Channel. And don’t worry, I’m not gonna be annoying like 99.98% of the people on YouTube where I ask you to subscribe, rate, and comment on my crap, because honestly, I don’t give a sh*t (ha). Just saying!

Disclaimer: I do not expect you to watch all of these videos. I just placed them here in case you do wish to watch. Duh. Also, do not complain about the quality of the videos or I will stab you.

On a more positive note, I love you guys for supporting BTB! So whether you’re new or a regular visitor, welcome and thank you for being hurr.

Ok, let’s get this party started!

NICK JONAS COVERS ‘EDGE OF GLORY’

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

Gagging on Nick Jonas!

OK OK, I know. That sounded wrong. But that’s besides the point.

During a recent performance, the youngest Jonas took a swing at Lady Gaga’s The Edge of Glory and acoustically hit hard. Judging by the screams, he hit it out of the ballpark. But then again, the screams were most likely coming from teenage girls who had just took a hit from a Salvia bong. Kidding!

The clip definitely gets my stamp of approval.

Gaga herself admired the video once seeing the clip via YouTube, writing on her Twitter account: “Swoon! Nick Jonas singing The Edge of Glory… On my way to press conference in Taichung, listening to it. So dreamy! X”

Check it!

Swoon it!

Whatever.

LOOK AT ME, I’M CUTE! FT. CHARICE

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

Cuteness coma!

Earlier this week, I had heard some rumble over Charice deleting her Facebook account. Apparently it was due to the fact that some haters were throwing around the “F” word on her page, spreading negativity. And no, I don’t mean that “F” word. I mean this one — three letters, also spelled with a PH. Yep, FAT.

Honestly, myself and BTB as a whole, we really don’t care about that. Why? Because all that matters is what happens when Charice hits the stage, and rips it to shreds with her ferocious vocal ability.

The only fat thing about Charice is her raw talent and her adorability factor. Those things combined are pretty obese! I think I can speak for the majority of the population (at least those with workable eyes and unclogged ears) when I say that Charice, honey, you’re all that and a bag of chips! (Do people still say this? Oh well, I just did!)

And listen, not to get all Bruno Mars-y but you’re beautiful…just the way you are!

Check out the new lyric video for Louder + one of my favorite Charice performances (covering Beyonce’s Halo) following.

FIONA APPLE TAKES ON BUDDY HOLLY

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

Back in the day, Fiona Apple was my favorite treat, showing that power could be held by a strong female in the music biz. Although she has been very quiet as of late, I want to bring her back into the spotlight with the kick ass cover of Buddy Holly’s Every Day. This will be the latest track to be featured on Rave On Buddy Holly (featuring several artists performing classics from the iconic singer), which will be released on Fantasy/Concord on June 28.

Get it girl, can’t wait for your new stuff!

I’m still feelin’ like a criminal.

THE CIVIL WARS COVER ‘DISARM’ BY THE SMASHING PUMPKINS

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

This past weekend, amidst a deeply personal conversation with a friend, Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins poured through the radio in the background. Immediately it transported me back to a place of fragile emotion, when I first listened to the song years ago.

“The reason I wrote Disarm was because, I didn’t have the guts to kill my parents, so I thought I’d get back at them through song. And rather then have an angry, angry, angry violent song I’d thought I’d write something beautiful and make them realize what tender feelings I have in my heart, and make them feel really bad for treating me like shit. Disarm is hard to talk about because people will say to me ‘I listen to that song and I can’t figure out what it’s about.’ It’s like about things that are beyond words. I think you can conjure up images and put together phrases, but it’s a feeling beyond words and for me it has a lot to do with like a sense of loss. Being an adult and looking back and romanticizing a childhood that never happened or went by so quickly in a naive state that you miss it.”

–Billy Corgan

The Civil Wars (a new favorite!) recently covered the classic track via Paste Magazine. Watch the cover reel below.

Yay for music music!

ADELE’S EX = A DOUCHE MCDOUCHEFACE

“For about a week he was calling and was deadly serious about it. Finally, I said, ‘Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I deserve it.’ He really thought he’d had some input into the creative process by being a p****. I’ll give him this credit – he made me an adult and put me on the road that I’m travelling.”

JESSIE J – LIVE FROM NEW YORK CITY

Photo courtesy of my mobile phone! How 21st century.

So tonight, I saw JJ in concert and as expected, was completely blown away dot com! Socks knocked off dot org! Yup, and I even met her after the show and she signed my cell phone. Holla! That was pretty cool. Such a genuine, down to earth performer who deserves every bit of praise that’s been coming her way.

Check out three videos from the show last night as recorded from my iPhone 4. And I can’t believe I’m saying this but screw it! If you’re on YouTube subscribe to my channel, por favor.

Sorry for not hyping this post up with grandeur and detail but to be honest, it’s currently 12:41AM and I’m exhausted dot net! (LOL, sorry, last domain reference I promise. It’s just something that’s attached itself to my vocab lately.)

[Note: I tagged this post under 'Covers' (among other tags) but wanted you to know (if you didn't already) that JJ wrote Party In The U.S.A. so technically it's not a cover. Ok, I'm tired and rambling but felt the need to clarify because I have issues!]

WONDERLAND & PS22 COVER MISS ADELE

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

It seems like every day someone else is jumping on the Adele train, and I say, all aboard! Rolling In The Deep is such a beautiful song, so why shouldn’t we get as much as we can? It’s so nice to see such a talented, true artist getting recognized by so many. Her album, 21, is a must have if you haven’t already picked up a copy.

Check out two new awesome renditions of Rolling In The Deep, performed by the new Irish girl group, Wonderland & BTB favorite, the PS22 Chorus.

KATY PERRY GETS ABDUCTED & PROBED

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

What the hell, Ms. Purry?!

Katy Perry recently dropped the music video to her new single E.T., featuring Kanye West and all I gots to say is I prefer quirky fun Katy over creepy Katy. The clip was directed by Floria Sigismondi (yes, she directed Christina Aguilera’s eccentric Fighter vid) and it certainly shows. Katy is painted into an alienhumanoiddeerbot that’s been beamed down from galaxy weird. Kanye basically just floats in the video and acts cooler than thou rhyming about probes and designer alien gear. Ya know, the usual.

On a more positive note, I found a cover of the track that I instantly fell in love with…

Watch my favorite E.T. cover by Alyssa Bernal + the official music video for the track following.

Are you feelin’ weird, creepy Katy?

DOLLY PARTON’S HEART IS AS BIG AS HER OLD SKOOL BOUFFANT & BOOBIES

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

This woman’s my hero!

With the just-announced news that Dolly would be touring this summer I found myself listening to old records and watching clips of her online. And I stumbled upon this gem of a photograph, as well as some touching points made when Dolly was interviewed last year by Larry King. Can’t wait to see you on the road this summer, Dolly!

When asked about her loyal gay fans:

“I have a lot of gay fans, female and male. A lot of people feel like they’ve grown up with me. As you know I’ve always been outspoken, I’ve always been pretty outrageous. I’ve always believed that a person should be who they are and you should be comfortable being who you are and people should leave you alone to be who you are and how you are. So I think I’ve always been accepted in the gay community because I accept them. I have so many fans who’ve always loved to come to the shows and they know that I’m not judging them. I think people are who they are. We’re supposed to love each other for what and who we are.”

When asked about anti-gay bullying:

“I don’t know the reasons why people act the way they do about other people. I just think we need to dig down a little deeper and try and be a little kinder to one another and accept each other for who we are. You can’t tell me that people are any way other than how they’re supposed to be. I don’t think gay people are trying to be different just to make other people miserable. I think people are being who they are. I think we should be a little more tolerant and a little more accepting and understanding.”

[Dolly, in an interview w/ Larry King]

Check out a recent interview below + Dolly’s version of Shine following. (The lyrics felt appropriately matched to the message of this post.)

PS: I’ve gotta get back to Dollywood! That place rules my face!

JOHN LEGEND TAKES ON GODDESS ADELE

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

There are songs where the finest version isn’t always the first recorded. If an artist decides to copy a song, spinning it in a drastic yet positive way, then the remake has the right to exist. This may not be the exact case scenario we’re talking about here, but John Legend does a pretty damn good job covering our girl Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. I simply worship both of these artists, and listening to each of their versions is a spectacular treat.

HALESTORM’S GOT IT COVER’D

By: Maria Ciezak
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

One of my beloved powerhouse groups, Halestorm, are back with a new EP entitled ReAnimate: The Covers. Lead singer, Lzzy Hale, blares notes so high, things may possibly explode. Her voice is truly one of the best out to date, with a range that’s purely epic. Halestorm covers a diverse collection of greats such as Skid Row, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, and modern day diva Lady Gaga (among others).

This disc has a little bit for everyone, while putting a unique, rock and roll touch on each track. This group never disappoints, live or on the airwaves. See the video below in case you need a reminder.
