When I first heard Whip My Hair by Will Smith’s daughter, Willow, I wasn’t sure how to react. On one hand, it made me want to booty pop drop n’ lock like the baller that I am! Then there was the other side of the coin — being an overly analytical writer and all — where I began to think about the idea of a 9-year-old girl being exposed to fame at such an early age and how that truly can warp their perception of this thing we call life, in the end.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but there is a part of me that questions any child in the entertainment business. Yes it happens, but 9x out of 10, most children who grow up in the industry end up being complete screwballs later down the road. You do have your exceptions. But I’m just sayin’!

With that being said, the track is dynamite, a sizzling piece of confectioned soft candy. There is definitely a presence to the song and to the way the song is delivered by Willow that makes it work — a delivery that makes the beat strut as if it’s a Kardashian girl at a Baby Phat runway show.

Jay-Z recently confirmed that he had signed a record deal with Willow, for his label, Roc Nation.

Willow announced the news via the Ryan Seacrest radio show, where she was joined by Jay-Z via telephone, who ranted about her awesomeness, even comparing the tater tot to the legendary Michael Jackson: “She has child innocence but she has a clear vision of what she wants and who she wants to be. I can imagine — I don’t wanna go so far — but I can imagine that’s how Mike was as a young kid.”

Aiight, as most of you know, I have a special place in my pop tart heart for female vocalists. Generally speaking, it’s usually my addiction, a habit I can form when I discover a cool song with a great pop structure and influence. No, I’m not talking bubblegum pop (although I think it undoubtedly serves a purpose as well), I’m talking about wonderful white light pop, pop that makes you feel something move.

This is where Natasha Bedingfield comes in…

Natasha Bedingfield is out with her new single Strip Me, and to put it unjournalistically — the song is totally effing awesome. The song makes you want to dance alone in your room in your underwear — yep, it’s that feel-good. And, as with all of Bedingfield’s music, the song is backed with an empowering message.

The British singer’s new album is set to be released on November 9th via Epic Records.

There’s no denying that Katy Perry reeks of fun and never takes herself too seriously. Case in point, Australia, where the California Gurls singer decided to crash a high school prom. Come on — Katy Perry, high school prom — it’s a teenage wet dream.

Target: Melbourne High School formal at the Grand Hyatt, where Perry got down on the dancefloor and even shook her rump to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Apparently, the prom was being held in the same hotel in which Perry was staying while promoting her new album in the country. When she overheard her song California Gurls being played at the event, she couldn’t resist and decided to make one heck of an entrance, grabbing a microphone and singing along. By the looks of things, it looks like some students lost their shiz/flipped the hell out, or thought that perhaps someone had spiked the punch and they were beginning to see things. Ha!

”Someone came over to me and said Katy Perry had heard about our formal, and wanted to come,” student council president Anthony Lay explained. “But she’s a celebrity and there were more than 550 students in the room, so another person, a woman, said it would be too dangerous.” But clearly that didn’t stop Perry.

Perry tweeted later the same night: “I totes just crashed a prom!!!”

When I first heard that Cher and Christina Aguilera would be working together on camera, I wasn’t too amused. Ok, maybe I’m in denial — I was amused a little. But unlike the rest of the men in which this particular film will undoubtedly cater to, I was hesitant to jump onboard. The storyline seemed all too familiar and I was just left wondering if the end result would be a finely executed lapdance or a broken heel kind of deal.

As a huge Aguilera supporter, I’ve had her back since day one. I even offered up a heartfelt analysis of her new disc Bionic — which has been the target of the media’s bullets and criticism — when it was released, going against haters.

When I saw the clip you’re about to see, I felt proud of the fact that I have (and most likely never will) give up on Aguilera’s raw talent. This particular clip (taken from Burlesque) made me happy. It shows Christina in a fresh new light — with no eccentric robotics or fake eyelashes — as she belts the Etta James’ classic, Something’s Got A Hold On Me, in a robust tone that only she carries. It’s actually a little shocking how ordinary she looks, and I mean that in the best way possible. She looks beautiful without all the pretense of being an “entertainer”.

Last year, long before Aggro Santos smashed the charts with his sledgehammer of a hit, Candy (feat. Kimberly Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls), I did a snapshot interview spotlight on the UK rapper. The minute I heard the song I knew it would be a hit, its pulsating beat just as infectious as one might expect by the track’s name — i.e., I played that shiz nonstop!

After the huge success of his debut single, the soon-to-be silver certified Candy (#5 in the UK charts, peaking at #2 on itunes, over 200K records sold), Santos is set to release his follow up track, Saint Or Sinner, on 22nd August 2010.

Produced by Flukes (Crazy Cousinz) and mixed by Phil Tann (LL Cool J, Beyonce), Saint Or Sinner is a gargantuan summertime smash that takes us back to the happy days of early 90s old skool – euphoric piano progressions throughout and a hook that’s bound to make you bump ya rump.

Saint Or Sinner will be the second single to be taken for Aggro’s forthcoming album, out 6th September.

More than 60 celebrities have donated a pair of shoes for MAG (Mines Advisory Group) — an organization that helps those affected by landmines. Each pair will be auctioned to raise money for the cause. Great news, right?

Of course it is, but I’ve got to be honest. As I was looking over the shoes being donated, I laughed a little. I effing love Pink for donating a pair from Aldo. Really, Pink? Aldo?! That store is in pretty much every mall across America, you think she would’ve gave up something a bit more exclusive. I kid, I kid. Kinda.

In all fairness though, the Aldo pair from Pink, in many ways, most likely corresponds with her normal, highly genuine, down-to-earth, anti-celebrity view of a lifestyle? Which is one reason why I think the chick is awesome.

The main point is that these shoes will most likely raise money and awareness to a cause that deserves our attention, and that’s never a bad thing. All the shoes are cool, I just had to share that rant.

Robyn has just released the music video for her brand new single Hang with Me. The video takes fans behind the scenes of Robyn’s touring life. But don’t worry, it’s not the typical video we’ve all seen before, this behind-the-scenes vid was directed by Max Vitali and is shot in an original manner that holds your attention, each shot a photograph all its own. There’s also live performance footage, studio time shots, and other promotional specks, like a fan signing and radio interview. If you look close enough you will also see BTB fave I Blame Coco.

Hang with Me is the lead single from Robyn’s second album (Body Talk Pt. 2) of a three part trilogy.

Robyn described the song as: “Pop should be seductive and sweet when it can. And I felt like I could be on Hang with Me, in a uncompromising way. It’s like a sweet and sour bon-bon wrapped in melancholy.”

The new album will be released September 6th.

ROB BRAYL: What’s the deal with the name, Powerlifter? Do tell.

MARTIN SWIGGART for Powerlifter: We decided to name the band POWERLIFTER because Matthew’s (vocalist) dad used to be a powerlifter when he was younger. We thought it was a pretty triumphant name for a band.

RB: Many elements are used to make up music, but not everyone would agree a Gameboy is one of them. How did the idea of using the Gameboy in your music develop?

MS: I used to have my own band (Martendo) about three years ago in which I made 8-bit sounds in a computer program. One night Matthew and I were drinking and hanging out and I showed the songs to him. He fell in love and told me about how there are people who use old computer systems and gaming devices to make music. I instantly researched and figured out how to use the Gameboy.

RB: There’s several crotch shots in your music video for Buffalo. Alcohol and crazy dancing, too. Clearly the point of the video is pure fun, eh?

MS: [Laughs] Pretty much. We do love to party and have fun. When we were talking about video ideas I told them I wanted a party video like in those late ’90s teen high school movies. The parties you always wanted to go to because it looked so fun. I think in the end we did a pretty good job at achieving that.

RB: The video and the sound coming from Powerlifter is so Brooklyn. Any New York shows in the future? Tour?

MS: Oh really? Didn’t know we were “Brooklyn” — that’s pretty awesome. As of yet we do not have any New York shows. We are about to go on a short tour to play the Gen Con convention. So yes, tour is a big part of our future. We’d love to make it up to New York.

RB: Be random. Tell us something we should know about the band and the music you’re proud to be a part of.

MS: We have an alter ego named Annoying Dead Best Friend. We want to start a restaurant called Blue-BQ. Where everything in the restaurant is white and the BBQ is blue. We are also in the works for shooting three/four more videos and working on a dvd. Currently writing/recording an EP for an Italy release on COUCOU net Label. I’m proud of this band because we always have fun when we play and hang out and encourage you to have fun with us.

Taio Cruz!

I wasn’t sure the British singer-songwriter could top the addictive hook of his massive single Break Your Heart (ft. Ludacris), but he’s proved us all wrong with a new stick of addictive pop dynamite.

The feel-good dance track is taken from his 2009 CD Rokstarr. In the explosive just-released video, Cruz can be seen around babes in mechanic outfits, big trucks, wrecked cars, and sticks of dynamite, of course. Cruz even cruises around on a 1000cc-speed bike.

Cruz told MTV about the track: “The song ‘Dynamite’ itself is about when you go to the club and when you go to a party and when you’re just going out…you got to feel like, ‘I’m just gonna explode,’ — basically, we are going to represent that with just massive, massive, fireworks in the sky!”

Apparently, a remix of the song featuring Jennifer Lopez is expected to surface soon.

Ian Carey is one of the major players in the House music scene worldwide. If you have no idea who the dude is, blame American radio, which has never been a fan of house/techno genres or their offspring. And normally, I’m not the biggest fan of house or techno either, but when I stumbled upon this new release, I instantly noticed it’s appeal. It’s catchy as hell. Sure, it’s nothing we haven’t all seen or heard before, but the jam has a heavy beat, one that quickly jets into the soles of your shoes and even if you want to deny it, you’ll soon realize you can’t. It’s a fun dancefloor track that’s perfect for summer.

The just-released music video is the club edit of Carey’s new single Let Loose, which features vocals from Mandy Ventrice. Carey spoke to Biggie.co.nz on Ventrice, stating: “She’s a really good pop on key vocalist. She’s signing a deal at the moment with a big label, so you will be seeing her in the near future as a solo artist.”
