THE ACADEMY IS; NOT A FLING

Music has become an industry. There’s no denying that fact. And that is why I continue my search for real artists, real singers, real bands- people who are creating and spreading music because they love it, and because they need it. They don’t just practice music- they live it. For a true artist, music isn’t just some high school fling- it’s a lifelong love affair. I think the members of The Academy Is, a pure-bred alt. rock/indie rock band, have earned the status of true musicians.

It’s evident in their soundtrack quality songs, which are sometimes buzzing with energy, sometimes mellowed out to a slow-motion glow, but always carrying the purity found in a song written by people who naturally breed music with their fingers and lips. No matter what the speed, mood, or topic of their songs, they never fail to ignite either a sense of major nostalgia or empowerment, always bubbling with that ruthless imagery we all love.

Their latest addition to the musical world would be the EP they released in 2009, ‘Lost in Pacific Time’, which features five brand new tracks. Most of their songs from their older albums hit you like a heat wave thick with electricity, while their newer ones hold onto the tone of falling over you like thick sheets of rain. Both very different mental sensations, yet still very similar in the control they have over you, and the energy they can give you.

Whether you’re crashing alone in your room, dancing the hours away with friends old or new, or driving to the ends of nowhere, The Academy Is will undoubtedly be the best addition to your evening.
