The Oprah Winfrey-produced indie drama PRECIOUS (based on the novel PUSH by Sapphire) boosted its hopes of Oscar glory over the weekend by taking home the top prize, the People’s Choice award, at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. Slumdog Millionaire scored the same prize at the festival last year before winning the Oscar for Best Picture.

The empowering film features Lenny Kravitz (who plays a nurse) & Mariah Carey, who plays a social worker. And by the looks of things, it looks like Carey may deliver a moving performance. Besides these two musical giants, the film’s theme is a song by the name of DESTINY, performed by Mary J. Blige.
The film is set to be released in limited theatres on November 6th. You can watch the trailer to the empowering film & listen to the theme song, performed by Blige, below.
