PASSION PIT = A SMILE ON THE DANCEFLOOR

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

Passion Pit is a band you should listen to, over and over and over again, played loud in a room or car where you can bust a move or bob your head.

Their first full length cd, MANNERS, is due out May 19th. Enjoy their first single below (from their first EP Chunk of Change), one lead singer Michael Angelakos wrote/created for his girlfriend as a Valentine’s Day gift. The song (not meant for fame) quickly spread its wings around his college campus, hitting some familiar circuits and bam, Passion Pit’s the next big buzzed about band, churning weird indie rock pop electronica that you can’t get out of your head…with good lyrics to boot!

And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going –

And you said
It was like fire around the brim
Burning solid,
Burning thin the burning rim
Like stars burning holes right through the dark
You gave fire like saltwater into my eyes
You were an inch from the edge of this bed
I drive you back a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

They couldn’t think of something to say the day you burst
With all their lions and all their might and all their thirst
They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin
Against the walls, against your rules, against your skin
My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors
Of your eyes, begone skies like a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

Go ahead

NOT ANOTHER DUMB BLONDE

FACE TO WATCH: Pixie Lott

Coming from the UK is 18 year old Pixie Lott. To strip it down, she sounds like Natasha Bedingfield with a hint of an old dead blues singer (laugh out loud)…and it’s a good thing!

Her debut record is set for an August 2009 release and luckily for her she’s worked with the cream of the damn pop crop, working with New York based producers who coined the supersmash anthem If I Were A Boy for Beyonce and the hit single Big Girls Don’t Cry for Fergie.

Check out Pixie singing the cover to Apologize by One Republic, below.

Influenced by Michael Jackson & Prince comes Kevin Michael, a soulful R&B singer with talent to match the size of his hair.

I’ll allow Kevin to introduce himself below, followed by his official music video for It Don’t Make Any Difference To Me.

CHRISTIAN SINGER STICKS UP FOR BRITNEY

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

Bebo Norman, a contemporary Christian artist has released a new song about none other than pop icon Britney Spears. The song is a soft shell ballad with much meaning behind our culture and our obsession with selling beauty while destroying the girl.

Check out Bebo Norman’s BRITNEY below.

Britney, I’m sorry for the lies we told
We took you into our arms and then left you cold
Britney, I’m sorry for this cruel cruel world
We sell the beauty but destroy the girl
Britney, I’m sorry for your broken heart
We stood aside and watched you fall apart
I’m sorry we told you fame would fill you up
And money moves the man so drink the cup

KELLY CLARKSON PEES IN THE SHOWER Y’ALL!

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

“Anybody who says they don’t pee in the shower is lying.”
K. Clarkson, Blender Magazine

Kelly Clarkson is back with her latest effort, ALL I EVER WANTED.

It’s pop rock with just the right amount of bubblegum.

Although MY DECEMBER (her last record) was a commercial failure, the song “Maybe” from that album remains to be the most poetic song by Clarkson to date in my opinion.

Check out my favorite track(s) from ALL I EVER WANTED, Don’t Let Me Stop You and I Do Not Hook Up (Written by Katy Perry and [new American Idol judge] Kara DioGuardi) below.

A lot of things I can take
Got a high threshold for pain
But let’s get one thing straight – I’m not down to share you with anyone
If that’s not what you’re looking for
Nice knowing you, but there’s the door

MONOGAMY.

NOT HOOKING UP.

FINALLY, a pop star teenage girls SHOULD emulate.

WHO WILL DRIVE MY SOUL?

By: Rob Brayl
For BiggerThanBeyonce.Com

So there’s this chick from Toronto, Valerie Poxleitner AKA LIGHTS, and she’s written an incredibly pretty song titled DRIVE MY SOUL.

The lyrics are simplified as well as the arrangment, proving that less is more. The video on the other hand is everything but simple — consisting of a busy backdrop — a campy comic book throwback (although LIGHTS makes it bearable because she’s clearly easy on the eyes). The video would’ve been more affective in my opinion stripped down, perhaps even black and white, simple, raw, and emotional — escalating the beauty of the track even more.

Check out the official music video for DRIVE MY SOUL as well as LIGHTS herself performing an acoustic set of the song below.

When you are gone
Will I lose control?
You are the only road I know
You show me where to go
Who will drive my soul?
